Vic: Man charged over girl s shooting

MELBOURNE, April 18 AAP - A man was today charged with recklessly endangering life
after an 11-year-old girl was hit by a ricocheting bullet at her Melbourne home.

The girl, who was shot in the arm, underwent surgery last night and was recovering
in a general ward, a Royal Children's Hospital spokeswoman said.

Police said the girl was at her Coburg home about 9pm (AEST) when a handgun being handled
by a man discharged and a bullet ricocheted into her arm.

The 35-year-old man was charged with reckless conduct endangering life, recklessly
causing serious injury and being a prohibited person using a firearm.

A 43-year-old woman was charged with making a false report to police.

Police said there were initial reports the girl had suffered a gunshot wound while
walking in the street.

The man and woman were bailed to appear in court at a later date.
