PSYOP Deploys Thinklogical's Velocity Extension and VX Router Systems
Type: News
Looking to streamline workflow processes, while maintaining pristine content quality, PSYOP's New York City location has deployed Thinklogical's KVM extension and switching.
PSYOP is a multimedia design firm based in NYC and Venice, California. They have produced visually animated campaigns for companies and brands such as AT&T, Guinness, MTV HD, Ray Ban, and Target. PSYOP noted that the creative process begins with still imagery generated by a team of designers and composed from drawn illustrations as well as photographs. Believing that surprising results emerge when graphic design takes the lead in an ad campaign or animation spot is a part of the agency's formula.
At a time when consumers are bombarded with more messages from various types of media, the Company said that it seeks to win over the hearts and minds of the public through creative content. People willingly seek out and enjoy PSYOP's work, especially on the internet, where ads thrive and spread via word of mouth.
"In the highly competitive world of advertising the speed and quality of producing and launching campaigns can translate to millions of dollars in sales for our customers. The editorial and visual effects teams at PSYOP require a flexible environment that provides immediate access to any of our state-of-the-art high resolution compositing and editing systems," said Michael Lunsford, Systems Engineer at Psyop. "Using the Thinklogical solution, our creative teams at PSYOP are now able to reliably access any of our high end systems with the same level of performance and video quality as if the data was located at their desktop computers."
PSYOP noted that the Thinklogical deployment of VelocityKVM and VX Routing systems provides a workflow at the Company in which editing rooms can access a broad range of animated and graphical image content, all of which is located in a centralized and secure data center.
Editing suites reside on four separate floors at PSYOP's NYC location. Thinklogical's systems provide each suite with seamless access and dynamic switching capability between all remote computer workstations in the control room. In addition, the Company said that the system is controlled by a GUI, the Thinklogical X4 Configurator, which speeds and streamlines workflow.
Thinklogical's fiber optic VelocityKVM 4 and 24 extension solutions provide the physical connection between the source content and editing rooms while the VX 40 Router and X4 Interface ensure immediate access and high resolution delivery of content to all of the creative and editing teams. Currently, PSYOP reported that a total of 33 VelocityKVM systems and a VX Router have been deployed to support eight editing suites, where up to 16 compositors and editors reside. Further expansion of the Thinklogical solution is planned for 2011.
"It has been a great pleasure to partner with a company as innovative and renowned as PSYOP. The work PSYOP is doing in the area of animation and graphic design fits extremely well to the key attributes of Thinklogical's solutions," said Dana Rasmussen, COO of Thinklogical. "Our MRTS technology and our ability to provide a fully integrated solution, and the innovative approach of our combined technical teams make the relationship between PSYOP and Thinklogical a perfect match."
Thinklogical is a manufacturer and provider of fiber optic KVM/ video extension solutions, and fiber matrix routers and switches.

PERTH, Dec 7 AAP - A 16-year-old Perth boy who allegedly pushed two young girls to
steal their mother's handbag and then threatened witnesses with a shovel has been charged
with robbery and criminal damage.
Police say the two girls, aged 10 and 12, were in the Warnbro Fair Shopping Centre
car park with their mother about 6.15pm (WST) on Monday when the mother returned to the
shopping centre to hand in some property she found.
The boy approached the two girls, pushing them and stealing the mother's handbag from
her shopping trolley before running away.
The 10-year-old girl fell to the ground and suffered minor injuries.
Police say several witnesses gave chase and cornered the boy who threw the bag into
some bushes before running off again.

Qld: Qld Teachers ordered to supervise NAPLAN tests
By Kym Agius
BRISBANE, April 30 AAP - A planned Queensland teacher boycott of the national literacy
and numeracy tests has been declared illegal by the state's industrial umpire.
The Queensland Industrial Relations Commission (QIRC) on Friday afternoon ordered Queensland
Teachers' Union (QTU) members to supervise the National Assessment Program Literacy and
Numeracy (NAPLAN) tests of grades three, five, seven and nine.
Queensland Education Minister Geoff Wilson is pleased with the ruling, saying students
have been put first.
"I know parents want the information literacy and numeracy national testing affords
them," Mr Wilson said in a statement.
"They deserve the information and the government intends to get it to them."
The Department of Education applied to have the boycott declared illegal after the
QTU ignored a softer "directive" from the QIRC last week.
Mr Wilson said he hoped the QTU would abide by the second, stronger QIRC ruling, warning
the union would pay a price if it didn't.
"Orders, under industrial law, are binding and come with consequences if they are not
followed," he said.
If the QTU ignores the order, it could be fined up to $100,000, deregistered, and individual
teachers could also be slapped with fines.
The QTU said the majority of its 40,000 members had voted not to supervise the tests,
over concerns that results would be used to create unfair league tables on the federal
government's new My School website.
President Steve Ryan said the union's executive would decide its response next Tuesday,
but for now the boycott would stay.
"The moratorium still exists until the executive makes its decision," Mr Ryan told AAP.
"Certainly, the orders have been issued against us.
"It was quite clear from the start, the commission was not prepared to hear the Queensland
Teachers' Union case.
"It was very clear that they were following the directions given to them by the government
and that's an unfortunate turn of events."
Meanwhile, Mr Wilson said the Department of Education would continue finalising contingency
plans in case QTU teachers go ahead with the boycott.
It's working to recruit 6000 casual, part-time and relief teachers to supervise the
May 11, 12 and 13 tests.
The government said if state school students do not sit the tests, the lack of data
could put at risk $20 million in federal funding.

SA: Man meant to kill former flatmate, court told
ADELAIDE, April 21 AAP - A former refugee from Afghanistan meant to kill when he stabbed
his former flatmate in the heart during a fight in Adelaide, a court was told today.
Reza Ali, 22, went on trial today in the South Australian Supreme Court, accused of
murdering Ahmad Ali in a Findon unit early on October 12, 2006.
Prosecutor Adam Kimber told the jury Ahmad Ali was just a "young man", making a new
life for himself as a taxi driver after coming to Adelaide from Afghanistan via a detention
camp.
Mr Kimber said it remained unclear exactly what led to the fight.
But, he said, there had been "bad blood" between the former flatmates after Reza Ali
moved out to Henley Beach months earlier.
Late on October 11, 2006, after drinking a small amount of beer with friends, Reza
Ali sent an abusive text message to Ahmad Ali, the court was told.
The pair then had a heated argument over the telephone before Reza Ali went to the
Findon flat despite attempts by his friends to stop him.
"It was a volatile situation, a knife was produced and Mr Ahmad Ali ended up dead on
the floor," Mr Kimber said.
Mr Kimber told the jury they would hear evidence from the accused saying the death
was completely accidental.
The court would be told Reza Ali had been punched at least twice in the face before
Ahmad Ali pulled out a knife and both men struggled over the weapon.
Mr Kimber said Ahmad Ali had knife wounds to his arms and face, plus a 12cm wound that
pierced his heart, causing fatal bleeding.
"The accused had no injuries at all," Mr Kimber said.
He said Reza Ali had the upper hand in that fight and meant to kill or at least seriously
harm Ahmad Ali when he grabbed the knife.
The trial, which is set down for two weeks, continues.

NSW:Iemma rules out recycled sewage water despite positive poll

NSW:Iemma rules out recycled sewage water despite positive poll
SYDNEY, Feb 12 AAP - NSW Premier Morris Iemma says he won't introduce recycled sewage
into Sydney's water supply, despite a new opinion poll showing most Australians would
be willing to drink it.
An ACNielsen poll published in Fairfax newspapers today found 78 per cent of Australians
- and 80 per cent of NSW residents - would be willing to drink recycled sewage water.
The NSW government has ruled out adding treated sewage to the Sydney water supply and
instead plans to build a 125 megalitre per day desalination plant.
Asked by reporters today if public opinion was changing on the sewage issue, Mr Iemma
said: "Maybe it has but we're getting on with our job of securing Sydney's water supply
with the strategy that we've developed".
Mr Iemma said it would take four to five years to build the infrastructure to add treated
sewage to the water supply and cost $4 billion, about twice the cost of desalination.
"It's longer and more costly," he told reporters.
Mr Iemma said welcome rain in the Sydney area over the weekend had seen 47.5 millimetres
fall in the Warragamba catchment area.
However, he said the government was still determined to proceed with the desalination
plant because the CSIRO had warned there could be a lack of rain for at least 15 years.
"I've given the commitment that we are proceeding with the desalination plant," he said.
"I've said if I'm returned as premier I'll sign the contract.
"This type of infrastructure is required as one of a range of measures."

Gatling then became interested in weaponry and invented a crank-operated machine gun, consisting of a cluster of barrels, usually ten, which he patented in 1862. It was mounted on wheels, and the gunner controlled the rate of fire, up to 150 rounds per minute, by turning a hand crank. The gun was accepted by the Union forces, but too late to see much service. Nevertheless, the Confederate leaders were devastated when they learned that the gun had an effective firing range of two thousand yards.
If Colonel Custer had had more confidence in the Gatling guns, he would not have left them behind (which historians say was deliberate), and the massacre of his men at the Battle of Little Big Horn (Custer's last stand) might never have occurred. In any event, Gatling has become immortalized, not because of the Gatling gun, which has long been allocated to the junk heap, but because that gun has given birth to a slang term for a gun, a term that is widely used and immediately understood—the gat.

Teenage kicks.
The 7DAYS letters page has recently been filled with comments from frustrated teens saying there is nothing for them to do in this city. It's true, the weather in this part of the world does prohibit a lot of outdoor activity for at least three months of the year, sports can be expensive, and transport to and from clubs, friend's houses, events and malls is more than likely reliant on parents - how uncool! But if you dig deep and look further than the usual mall outings and bowling alleys, there is in fact, plenty for teens to do in Dubai. All it takes is a little imagination. Here are some suggestions to banish boredom: Climb a wall If having nothing to do quite literally has you climbing the walls, then why not take advantage of this talent and head down to the E-Sports Climbing Academy or the Pharaoh's Club at Wafi to perfect the art of scaling heights. Both venues have professional climbing walls and expert instructors to show you the ropes, and of course the foot-holes. Call the Pharaoh Club on 04 324 0000 or visit Esportsdubai.com Become an eBay whizz kid Parents are always complaining that they don't understand computers yet the younger generation are internet experts. So, get to grips with eBay; make a fortune for your parents and demand your own cut of the profits! If you manage to make dhs100 for a pair of your mum's old shoes or flog your dad's old magazine collection (with permission of course) you're bound to score points with the folks and collect a tidy sum. Make the most of the nice weather It's going to be too hot to enjoy outdoor activities soon, so why not get some air in your lungs now? Ask your parents if they'll be able to pay for you to go wakeboarding or horseriding. But if money is tight at the moment, get some friends together and play tennis or football on the beach. We live so close to beautiful beaches, but often take them for granted, so celebrate the cooler climate and make the most of the outdoor life. HAL TATAKALAM ARABI? In this multicultural city, being able to speak a new language would be really handy. If you're an expat teenager, why not learn Arabic and impress your local friends. The Eton Institute of Languages down at Knowledge Village has dozens of courses from Farsi to Italian and they even do online courses so you could do it all from the comfort of your bedroom. Call 04 360 2955 or email info@eton.ac Dramatic tendencies If you can entertain your friends without even breaking a sweat, then you could be a born actor. Why not put your skills to good use and start attending drama classes? Drama Dubai runs workshops for all ages and abilities to teach everything from method acting to stage fighting and circus skills. For information visit dramaworkshopsdubai.com Do some charity work Doing something for others or 'giving back' as they say gives people a real sense of satisfaction. And if you're thinking, 'why would I give up my precious free time', well charity work doesn't have to be a chore. If you like animals you could volunteer at an animal sanctuary like Feline Friends or, if you're creative, put your skills to good use by selling your cool crafts and donating the money to a charity of your choice. Al Noor Training Centre for Children with Special Needs takes on young people over the age of 16 to assist and help the children at the centre. The volunteers work from 8am to 1pm so maybe you could put a day off school to good use by signing up for a few hours on a Friday. Contact 04 340 4844 for more details. Older teens should also note that listing volunteer work on your CV gives you an added advantage when future employees are looking to recruit. PAD YOUR POCKETS If you and your friends are really bored, why not set up a business doing odd jobs? From washing cars to babysitting or maybe even just doing some dusting (essential in Dubai), if you work out a rate for each job it could be a nice little earner. If you're a real entrepreneur you could design flyers or set up your own web site to advertise your service. ROCK ON Every teen wants to be a rock star, so what's stopping you? Any spare time can be put to great use by starting a garage band. Find a singer, guitarist, drummer and bassist and get practicing in any available space - at home or at school. Music and lyrics can be found online, and if you get really good, you might even find an opportunity to play at one of Dubai's many live music nights. Early on, Internet Honey established itself as a visionary in an industry that changes as rapidly as the acronyms it uses. The company is a Software as a Service (SaaS) business headquartered in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Internet Honey President Jason Goss and Burrell, along with three full-time staff and several contractors, specialize exclusively in marketing technologies for Destination Marketing Organizations (DMOs), Convention and Visitor Bureaus (CVBs), resorts, hospitality, attractions and events. With its proprietary tool Honeycomb, Internet Honey delivers a refined solution for web Content Management Systems (CMS), Customer Relationship Management (CRM), e-commerce, e-mail delivery, analytics and media management. Burrell, a fifteen-year veteran of internet marketing in tourism, is a Salesforce CRM Administrator, Google Analytics Authorized Consultant, Google AdWords Qualified Individual, and Yahoo Search Marketing Ambassador. Goss brings two decades of experience in direct marketing, a career which began with direct mail and has evolved into data mining and web-based market intelligence solutions specific to travel and tourism.
The addition of Internet Honey to the Colorado tourism marketing team is one of several changes in 2011. Earlier this spring, the CTO announced the agencies selected for five of its marketing-related contracts. Four contractors, including Karsh/Hagan, MMG Mardiks, Miles|Weaver and Cellet Travel Services Limited were selected for different roles to promote the state up to the next three years. Denver's Karsh/Hagan was selected as the lead brand agency for the Colorado Tourism Office and is responsible for brand development, creative production, media planning and buying for the CTO's domestic advertising campaigns.
"Internet Honey offered a smart, strategic and responsive approach to the Colorado Tourism Office's CRM and database management needs." said Rachael Donaldson VP Account Strategy, Karsh/Hagan "We were very impressed both that they specialize in tourism and that their focus is on providing and segmenting data that can be truly analyzed and acted upon, instead of simply reported. They're a valuable addition to our team and we're proud to support a Colorado-based business."
Miles|Weaver, the publishers of the Official State Vacation Guide and colorado.com, will also work closely with Internet Honey to help maximize the message and reach on the state's portal website. Content and messaging of the site will be continuously optimized for search engines, with the goal of seamless access for consumers searching for Colorado travel information, and favorable and relevant search engine rankings for its myriad advertisers which include destinations, attractions, lodges, restaurants and more.

Israel to use force to stop 2nd freedom flotilla from reaching Gaza.
Israel announced on Tuesday it would prevent a
second international freedom flottila from arriving at Gazza on June 20.
But, it claimed that it preferred a diplomatic solution rather than force
to stop the flotilla, said the newspaper Haaretz, commemorating one year since
the first flotilla was attacked by Israeli forces killing nine Turkish
activists.
Underscoring Israeli prime minister Benjamin Natanyahu's statement that the
flotilla should be stopped from reaching the shores of Gaza, the newspaper
attributed to him his willingness to resort to force if circumstances required
it.
Israeli naval forces have been in the past few months rehearsing tactics
they could use to stop a flotilla of at least 15 vessels from heading to the
shores of Gaza.
These forces are likely to use intelligence services and the internet,
among other things, to keep tab on the course of the would-be flottila, said
the paper.
Israeli army sources affirmed that the use of force to prevent the flotilla
will be a last resort.

*** Gross profit increased 10% from the first quarter of 2010.
*** Gross margin increased 4 basis points to 35%
*** Operating expenses decreased 16% from the first quarter of 2010.
*** Net loss of ($398,000) was a 65% improvement from the net loss of ($1,121,000) during the first quarter of 2010.
*** Net loss per share of $(0.02) improved 71% from a net loss per share of ($0.07) during the first quarter of 2010.
Robert Fagenson, Chairman of the Board, stated: "Our core business continues to improve and despite the slightly lower sales in this seasonally-weak quarter, our team continues to move our company in the right direction. The true value of DMC remains to be in our portfolio of patented technology and product development staff. Our strategic plan remains sound and the quality and diversity of our customer base reinforces our belief that we are on the right track towards our goals of sustainable growth and profitability for the year."
Document Security System's CEO Patrick White added: "We are very encouraged to see that our net loss decreased 65%. Our first quarter sales were essentially flat due to seasonality and a continued weak commercial print environment; however, we are very pleased with the sales mix during the quarter. We continue to replace unprofitable standard commercial printing by emphasizing security and digital printing. The result of the evolving sales mix change is having the desired results on our margins. Our gross margin reached 35% up from 31% from the first quarter of 2010, and up from 28% in the fourth quarter of 2010. Our gross profit increased 10% and operating expenses decreased 16% from the first quarter of last year, each of which favorably impacted our financial results during the quarter. We continue to be excited by our expanding customer base, both on the licensing and product sides of our business."
