Fed: Stay out of politics, Costello tells Telstra

PETER COSTELLO has urged Telstra management to stay out of politics.

Yesterday Telstra public policy head PHIL BURGESS called for regulatory reform .. ignoring
government calls for Telstra executives to concentrate on their job and stop commenting
on policy.

Mr BURGESS says with 50 per cent of Telstra's revenues regulated .. the idea that business
and regulation are somehow two different things is a view only somebody from another planet
could have.

But the federal treasurer says Telstra executives should focus on the company.

He says political issues in Australia are decided by the elected representatives in
the government .. and Dr BURGESS should recognise that.
