QLD: Qld govt has made good Y2K bug progress: minister

BRISBANE, April 13 AAP - The Queensland government had made "significant progress"
rectifying the Y2K problem in its computer equipment, Information Minister Terry Mackenroth
said today.

Sixteen of the 20 state departments had completed more than half the assessment and
rectification work necessary to stop the 2000 millennium bug causing problems, he said.

"The report reveals the critical life threatening areas of health and emergency services
are well on track," Mr Mackenroth said in a statement.

Mr Mackenroth said the results were encouraging but more work had to be done to combat
possible technology failures when computer banks switched over to January 1, 2000.
