Qld: Federal policies helped push up petrol prices RACQ

Queensland's leading motoring body says federal government policies have contributed
to a $10 increase in the cost of filling the average car.

R-A-C-Q chief executive ALAN TERRY says petrol price hikes have mainly been caused
by higher world oil prices and a weak Australian dollar.

But he says the federal government has made a major contribution with the GST and the
twice-yearly indexation of excise.

Mr TERRY says taxes on petrol in Queensland have increased by up to nine per cent since
the introduction of the new tax system last year.
